Capsule Geology

The Rip prospect is associated with stock of the Upper Cretaceous Bulkley Plutonic Suite that intrudes Hazelton Group stratigraphy possibly of the Middle Jurassic Smithers Formation (Hazelton Group).

Rocks are weakly mineralized with chalcopyrite, molybdenite, and pyrite in fracture fillings. As well, the biotite porphyry hosts an estimated 1.5 per cent of disseminated sulphides; mainly pyrite with minor chalcopyrite. There is a well-developed hydrothermal alteration facies concentric to the biotite porphyry which includes potassic, phyllic, argillic, and propylitic zones. There is weak hornfelsing throughout the volcanics and is strongest near the contact with the granodioritic stock. Mineralization in the hornfelsed aureole consists mainly of disseminated pyrite with very minor chalcopyrite. A quartz - chalcopyrite - molybdenite - magnetite stockwork occurs mainly in hornfels. Pervasive phyllic (sericitic) alteration occurs in the area of the stockwork.

WORK HISTORY

In 1973, Saiwa Resources Ltd. completed 24 line kilometres of a magnetometer survey and a geochemical survey on the MIN claims (Assessment Report 4728).

In 1975, Kennco Explorations completed 21 line kilometres of an IP and a magnetometer survey on the RIP claims (Assessment Report 5818). A 214 metre by up to a 920 metre anomalous IP-resistivity area was thought to be caused by sulfide mineralization in fractured quartz-sericite altered volcanic rock near a quartz-monzonite porphyry stock. Kennco Explorations completed one 295 metre BQ diamond drill hole on the Andrew 1 mineral claim located 9.5 kilometers west of Andrew Bay (Assessment Report 5819). The entire drill hole intersected andesitic volcanics with localized diorite and porphyry dikes. The upper 167.6 metres was predominantly of quartz-sericite and pyrite altered volcanics with mineral values of up to 0.095 per cent copper (from a re-healed quartz diorite dike ) and up to 0.012 per cent molybdenum (also from a quartz diorite dike) (Assessment Report 5819). The bottom of the hole was far less significant.

In 1980, SMD Mining Co. Ltd., as operator in a joint venture with Kennco Explorations, completed 34.0 kilometres of an IP/resistivity survey and 78.7 kilometres of a magnetometer survey on the RIP 1-8 mineral claims (Assessment Report 8366). The anomalous IP zone located by Kennco in 1975 was confirmed but only marginally extended to the south. Thirty-six percussion holes totalling 1,762.9 metres were drilled, mostly on Rip 1 and 2 claims with one hole each also on Rip 3 and Rip 8 (Assessment Report 8756).

In 1981, SMD Mining analyzed 26 percussion drill holes (presumably from the previous year) for 15 elements to determine zoning patterns (Assessment Report 9178). Only one potentially economic porphyry-type ore target is presently inferred from the results.

In 2008, a VLF-EM and magnetometer survey were carried out on the Rip claim on behalf of owner Andrew Sostad. The magnetometer survey delineated three extensive magnetic low areas: central, northwest, and southeast.
